Appleby:
where community gathers,
memories grow

Welcome to the Parish!
Appleby is a small picturesque village in North Lincolnshire.
Lying about 5 km north-east of Scunthorpe and approximately 5 and a half miles north west of Brigg. Straddling the B1207 – the historic Roman Road of Ermine Street which once ran directly from London to York, the village nestles on the dipped slope of a limestone escarpment that falls gently towards the River Ancholme to the east.
The parish boasts a rich history and agricultural tradition, an attractive church dedicated to St Bartholomew dating in part from the 13th century, and stunning village architecture flanking tree-lined lanes. 18th century stone cottages, distinctive brick and stone ‘Estate Cottages’ from the 19th century and the locally renowned Thatched Cottage make up this distinctive tapestry of our quintessential village.
Appleby has retained a strong identity, sense of community and self worth. The village hall is the hub of the community offering regular pub nights, café, bingo, the hall is also available for private bookings. We has an active and useful residents group on Facebook, we offer a variety of other events and activities taking place around the village, such as the hugely popular annual Appleby Music Festival, Open Gardens and Scarecrows event in summer.

History
Appleby Village History:
Appleby is thought to date back to Roman times. The historic Ermine Street runs through the middle of the village and this is the view many passing motorists have of us. If, however, you were to explore a few of the side roads an even richer source of history, architecture and village life will appear.
